Statement of Purpose

Acorn provides a stable, safe and homely environment for children and young people. Our main purpose are to support, enable and prepare young people to develop the necessary skills, competence and confidence so that they can live independently

In achieving the Government’s aim set out in “Keep On Caring” we are committed to achieving the following objectives:

  • Support all young people leaving care to be better prepared and supported to live independently.
  • Support care leavers to access education, employment and training.
  • Provide children and young people with stability in their lives and enable them to feel safe and secure.
  • Enable and assist care leavers to access appropriate health services.
  • Support care leavers to achieve financial stability in their lives.

We are children and young person centred in our work.  We work in partnership with young people, external agencies and parents/carers (where applicable).

Our purpose is to also provide a service to the community which positively benefits the children and young people we work with.   We aim to provide a holistic service encompassing children and young person’s cultural, religious and identity needs.

We have in-depth knowledge and understanding of the diverse communities and are therefore well placed to offer positive role modelling. We are able to challenge some of the misconceptions placed on young people.

The service we offer, gives young people, the opportunities to prepare for adulthood making positive contributions to the wider society.

In providing appropriate support and a homely environment, staff are available onsite 24 hours a day and key working sessions provided on a regular basis within a a structured programme of intervention. We provide therapeutic key work sessions using Solution Focused Brief therapy and Narrative therapy.
